Phillip 2 was the creator of the basic Macedonian army that Alexander was to unleash upon Persia and the rest with devastating effect. This is the army on the eve of the Great Adventure.

The Hypaspists remain a great point of controversy as to useage. The option is given to field them as pikes or as LHI. It is understood that the Hypaspists had an internal organisation of three units, but this does not indicate battlefield useage anymore than the basic units of the phalanx indicate potential battlefield divisions.
