Notes

All FT may form Shieldwall.

This list represents the Angles, Saxons and Jutes from their first appearance in Britain in approximately 400 AD until the establishment of the Anglo-Danish Kingdoms in England in the 10th Century and the royal adaptation of Huscarls (from the Norse). However, I would argue that Huscarls would have been limited to the wealthier areas, and this list could represent poorer and fringe Anglo-Saxon armies through the Norman conquest and anti-Norman rebellions.

The Angles, Saxons and Jutes initially raided Roman Britain and as the Romans withdrew, the raids became more severe and settlements began. Romano-British Kingdoms increasingly used Germanic mercenaries until, in 449 AD, Hengist arrived and the Saxons aggressively began the conquest of Britain. Angles, Saxons and Jutes came from the area of Denmark and were more dour than their southern Germanic kin. They are interpreted as FT, like their descendents the Anglo-Saxons and later Viking cousins.

Ordo Link: Another of the early lists. Initial discussion can be found on the New Armies Submissions thread. Better luck might be had at the New Dark Age British thread.

Last Edited: 05 August 2005. Core Terrain changed from GR to Woods, 1 RG added to bonus.
