The Harold in Wales package and Aelfgar's rebellion package are mutually exclusive. One may purchase one package or the other but not both.

*All Saxon FT may form shieldwall.

** Saxon cavalry may not be used with Harold in Wales.

This list allows the Saxons some of the variants that make the army more flexible.

Harold campaigned in Wales in 1063 and equipped his huscarls with leather armour and javelins to better fit them to chase the Welsh in the hills. The assumption is made that the Huscarls were 'padded' with local fyrd levies as an army consisting of only light huscarls would have had a problem matching the numbers of the Welsh. Sources include Florence of Worcester and the continuator of the chronicle of Croyland.

Twice in Edward the Confessor's reign, Earl Aelfgar of Mercia rebelled and sought Welsh allies who turned out in such numbers under their prince Gruffyd that Edward was forced to reinstate Aelfgar.
