Army of the Maid

This is the army that started the reconquest of France from the English. It represents the rising of popular feeling against the English via Joan of Arc as figure-head, post Agincourt through to just before the instigation of the Ordonnance reforms. It fought the English, the Free Companies and the earlier (pre-Ordonnance) Burgundian armies, all with a good deal of sucess.

This is a very tricky army to depict in Armati terms, as it was composed of large numbers of very enthusiastic militia style infantry, mixed with armoured French nobility, town militias and also a fair few Scottish allies.

# HC(d) are either Free Company mercenaries or the less well armed elements of the Noble cavalry. They are subject to obligatory charge.

The Ribaults do not have missile weapons.

Peasant WB are BP 3, move 9 inches, and may form up deep,

The Core Terrain RG represents Vineyards - again these were used sucessfully to creep up on one English army - but caused the defeat of another French army as the troops got confused & their formations disrupted by the vine stocks & ropes used to train the vines along.

OPTIONAL RULES

To be used only with an opponent's agreement and NOT in competition

I also like the idea that if the army was led by "The Maid of Orleans" she could either add +1 to a units fighting factor or +1 to it's unit BP & could attach & detach from them at will - even if in melee.

This option can only be used with your opponent's agreement & not in competition.

This was a period of experimentation for the French. The Pavisier units represent the deliberate arming of troops with large thick wooden pavises and full plate armour, who literally walked through an English LB barrage and ran the English off the battlefield. This is hard to represent in Armati terms as normally the protection drops to +0 against LB at short range.

Therefore, an alternative option is to increase the points for the Pavisiers up to 10pts but they always count as +1 protection to LB regardless of range. This reflects the fact that at longer range the LB 'zone or pattern' shooting would have been more effective than closer range 'flat' shooting. However, they count as +2 protection to all other missiles (except X-bows at short-range when they drop to +0 to represent the X-bows better effect when 'flat' shooting).
