If any Bulgars, Slavs or Gepids are bought then at least one of the noble units from that contingent must be bought except for SI who do not need noble leaders. It is not necessary to buy all of the troops from a contingent. Troops from all contingents may be bought in the same force.

The Gepid Warband** are BP4, move 6 inches. The Gepid Foot and Warband are mutually exclusive options and may not both be bought. Gepid cavalry dismount as FT. Byzantine sources refer to glittering ranks of Avar foot, either Gepids, LHI Slavs or both.

After 630 AD the Avars should be fielded without any Bulgar and Gepid Allies, and only Slav LI or SI available, as they lost their prestige and control of their subject tribes.
