Cimbri and Teutones 115BC to 102BC

Cimbri means Plunderers but a better title for these would be ‘The Wanderers’ given the meandering course their route took through Europe. That this was a varied and exotic army is without doubt and it creates some paradoxes in that they beat the Romans but failed to make headway against the Iberian Tribes, or the stronger Gallic nations. It is possible they lacked sufficient LI to deal with such troops.

Warbands are easy to assign to this army, but other tribes such as the Ambrones, who fight with more apparent discipline, or powerful German cavalry with iron breastplates, white shields, and wearing animal head styled helmets, or fanatic women, are another matter.

The least we can do is not to split the wanderers into three bite sized groups for the Romans to beat.

Core WB may form deep.

ALL WB move 6 inches and are BP4.

* All must be bought or none and all must be in one division.

**The frenzied women units and the rules governing their use are optional and may only be used with your opponent's agreement and never in tournaments. Having said that, the option does add color and interest to the army distinguishing it from other WB based armies.

**The women operate as FT and have 2BP.

** The women fight as a last desperation measure and must form with at least part of one unit their division touching the rear line of the centre deployment zone at the start of the game. They may not go completely out of the deployment zone even under Obligatory charge until at least three friendly FT/WB/HC are destroyed and they must be in entirely Women Warrior divisions. If any troop type is out of control, any and all women used must be among the uncontrolled units.

As a purely aesthetic measure it would be worth making a piece of RG with a perimeter of wagon models to represent the wagon camp of the barbarians
