This list attempts to replicate the varied and assorted armies of the ‘Holy Roman Empire’ or Imperialist Germany. It represents the diverse individual forces of the various Elector states; national contingents; Ecclesiastical and ‘crusader’ forces (the anti-Hussite crusaders of the 1st half of the C15th being the most obvious); town and city-state troop and finally the combined Imperialist forces led by the Emperor himself

As the century progressed the % of Pike increased and the numbers of more traditionally armed spear or pole-arm armed troops (Various) decreased. Therefore, for each bonus FT Pike unit bought an optional bonus FT Various unit is dropped

The contemporary view of Imperialist Men-at-Arms was that they were far less impetuous / enthusiastic than their French or Burgundian counterparts. Hence their FV has been downgraded to FV5 but they are not subject to obligatory charge - although they behave as Kn(d!) in all other respects.

Imperial ‘lances’ were specified as containing poorer apparelled Men-at-Arms, Ritters and Mtd Archers (armed with Xbow) in their rear ranks, as well as the better armoured Men-at-Arms to the fore, it is generally recognised that they formed up and fought in combined formations. However, as an alternative it is possible to field the mounted elements of the ‘lances’ separately. This can be depicted by halving the numbers of core & bonus Kn(d!) and for each Kn(d!) unit fielded, the following must be added:

1 – HC(d!) [k] (Ritters) 4(0)0 +1 Lance @ 10

1 – LC(d) [k] (Archers) 1(0)0 +1 Xbow @ 6

If any ‘lances’ are fielded as separate elements, all must be. If any element of an individual separated ‘lance’ is fielded dismounted all must be dismounted

LC (d)(Archers) dismount as SI [k] 2(1)1 +2 Xbow @ 6pts

If any Hungarians are bought all must be. Hungarian LC & Si only count towards the extra Light Div rule if any Hungarians are bought

HG counts as Xbow in all respects

At the start of this period, the Swiss Cantons were technically part of the Imperialist sphere of influence – not that the Swiss generally accepted this! The Swiss unit has COH move. In non-competition games the Swiss continent should not be fielded against a Late C15th Swiss army

Swiss and Hungarians cannot be fielded in the same army

Artillery - must be fielded in an Out of Command Light Division and counts as Si for combat and dispersal purposes.

ART cannot be set up in either of the flank deployment zones.

ART has a range of 35", it reduces all targets protection to +0 with the exception of Si.

ART will inflict Fatigues on targets not casualties.

ART may ignore enemy Si as a target priority, unless the enemy Si are within 9" of the ART and within arc of fire. However ART cannot shoot over or through Si without the Si becoming their target.

Optional: not for use in competition and only with opponants agreement

War Wagons:

Later Imperialist armies used War Wagons in response to the Hussites using them and also later on towards the very end of the C15th.

Rather than create a new troop type to cover them (for now) I think it is 'simpler' to attempt to replicate their inclusion as follows:

1 - Wagon Laager@ 3pts

War Wagons Laagers are represented as RG in all respects.

If purchased, it count as an additional bonus terrain choice, but can only be placed within the central deployment zone (in its entirety) and must be deployed before all other terrain.

Obviously - it would be nice to think that players will go to the trouble of making a suitably representative wagon laager if fielding this option.

NB: Swiss, Hungarians and War Wagons cannot be fielded in the same army
