Early Medieval Irish

Early Medieval Irish c. 1150-1350 AD

Age of Chivalry

This list represents the Irish from the first Norman encroachment and the ascendancy of the Galloglaich until the Irish revival as England became embroiled in Continental wars and the Irish and Anglo-Irish began to merge in many regions. During this period, the Galloglaich appeared from Scotland and the Isles, the former Irish strongmen, mainly Norse-Irish, Vikings and assorted Ostmen were destroyed, absorbed and generally disappeared and Irish warfare formalized. Skirmishers were still an important part of Irish warfare although the Irish tried more frequently to match their enemies in open-field warfare.
