The Alaman dukes Lothar and Butilin sought and gained the permission of the Frankish king to invade Italy. This they did with a horde of Alaman Warriors. There, they allied with remnant Gothic forces under Aligern and Ragnaris. The Franks retained garrisons in Northern Italy and later supported the rebellion of the Gothic count Widukind.
