Mid Imperial Rome 118AD to 235AD
The cavalry are beginning to become more important to the Roman army. Note the increase in light cavalry in particular. However, this is still very much the old imperial army.
Light Troops are given more flexibility in line with the systems that were to develop for the Later Roman Army.

Citizen/Eastern Legions are considered Romans regardless of the particular unit's actual provenance or citizenship and are NOT Eastern Allies for the purposes of these notes. Only those units expressly labeled "Eastern Allies" are to be considered Eastern Allied units.
* These Bonus COH and FT units may not be used if any Eastern Allies are bought.
** No more than a combined total of 4 units from both these lines may be purchased. If more than two LHI units are purchased, then all LHI units become key units. LI units remain non-Key units in all cases.
*** If CAT are purchased, all Eastern Allied LC must be purchased. A player may purchase the Eastern Allied LC without purchasing the CAT.
**** If any Eastern Allied FT are purchased then all Eastern Allied units must be bought. Note that Citizen/Eastern Legions are NOT Eastern Allied FT.
If the army has a total of more than four LC units including the Core LC units, then ALL LC units including the Core LC units become Key units.
In non-tournament games the Eastern Allies should not be used against WB armies. They may always be used in tournament games.
Not to be used in tournaments and only with opponent's agreement.

The Border Guards were just that and it is unlikely they were used in campaigns and certainly not in numbers that really justify their use on the wargames table.
