Optional Rules:
Triarii must be placed in the second rank of echeloned divisions.
The Roman player may place an impassable river three game inches wide in either the left or right deployment zone running completely across the board from the Roman table edge to the Carthaginian table edge parallel with the table edge. No portion of the river may touch the center deployment zone. Troops may deploy on either side of the river within the type limitations imposed by the rules for deployment in the flank zones. Once deployed, no unit may cross the river.
