Notes:

The Palatine Cavalry were, by Arab accounts of the Conquest, superbly equipped with gilded and jewelled armor. They may have had horse armor in imitation of the Byzantines with whom they had strong contacts. The Estate Slaves were levied by the Visigothic army law and could be armored. The law calls for slings and bows. It is likely that some Basques were called up from the foot hills of the Pyrenees which the Goths conquered. This is certainly the situation north of the Pyrenees.

The Gardingi and town militia represent the better garrisons of the march of Septimania which was heavily settled by the Goths because it was vulnerable to Frankish attacks. The balance of the army and its difference revolves around the good noble cavalry and the poor Estate FT.
