*Chinese sources describe metal breastplates for horses used by the Wu-sun. Moreover, the Wu-sun extorted arms and armor from the Chinese in exchange for periodic attacks against the Hsiung-nu. The K'un-mo who led the migration which resulted in the Wu-sun secession from the Hsiung-nu was known as a particularly hard charging type. The combination of these facts plus a perception that the Wu-sun were valued by the Hsiung-nu for their melee abilities leads to the conclusion that the Wu-sun should have a higher proportion of more heavily armored cavalry and more heavy divisions than some of their immediate contemporary neighbors.
