This is the army of the Dukes of Aquitaine. For a while they were practically independent of the Frankish kingdom. Duke Eudo allied with discontented Berbers in the North of Spain. He fended off the first attacks of the Spanish Moslems, but later had to turn to Charles Martel for aid. The Basques had spread far out across the Gascon plains (causing Aquitania up to Bordeaux) to be named Gascony. Military service was one of the Basques' main employments

In the period after 720 the Basques become ever more dominant in the army. The Bonus Basque LI can be fielded as LHI, but they become key and may not be fielded with the Berber ally option.
