Matilda of Tuscany 1080-1092

Matilda led a successful military career while failing to secure her lands and conquer her enemy in open battle until the struggle was 12 years old. She was a strong supporter of the Roman Pope and fought Henry IV. Her loyalty to her beliefs, as well as her success as a guerilla leader, make her an interesting study. Most of the troops from the regular Italian lists have been downgraded since many of the cities and nobles went over to Henry. Matilda fought mainly in the rougher parts of her territories, thus the move to LHI.

Notes:

1. Militia Spadaccino (LHI 4[1]2) may be converted to Militia (FT 5[1]0 +1 Spear/Shield) on a 1 for 1 basis

2. I've lowered the Init on the theory that the army lost most of it's experienced and motivated leaders when the nobles went over to Henry. Matilda was well educated but I'm not sure she had the ability to build a flexible command structure.

3. At this time the Spear, Archers, and Crossbow were kept seperate. Later in the period Italy learns to use a combined Missile/Melee/Shield formation.
