Army List Formula The standard size of an army for a TOURNAMENT game is an 95 point (+/-3) Core Army with 75 points of Bonus Selections. For larger armies, please see Bonus Unit Procedures on page 34 of Armati 2d Edition for guidance. Of course, army size in scenarios will vary from scenario to scenario. The following guidelines are provided for drafting army lists with a projected bonus point value of 75 points for use in play. They are not necessarily applicable to larger or smaller armies.
The number of heavy divisions in an army is limited to a maximum of 5. The number of light divisions in an army is limited to 6 not counting the free extra division for purchasing all the light units from the bonus section provided for under Control Ratings on page 34 of Armati 2d Edition. An army should not exceed a combined total of 8 heavy and light divisions except in unusual and limited circumstances requiring documented support from primary sources. Under no circumstances may the combined total of heavy and light divisions exceed 9. The limitation on the combined number of divisions also does not include the free extra division for purchasing all the light units from the bonus section provided for under Control Ratings on page 34 of Armati 2d Edition.
The mode army Initiative rating is 4-6 for infantry armies and 5-7 for cavalry armies. Under no circumstances may an army's Initiative Rating exceed 8. Increases or decreases of one point are permitted in unusual and limited circumstances requiring documented support from primary sources. Under no circumstances may an army's Initiative rating exceed 8.
The presumptive FV for bow armed "HC" is 4 with very limited numbers of FV 5 HC with bows. No more than two such units may be in any army. Use of any bow armed "HC" with an FV of 5 requires support from primary sources. Heavy infantry units are presumed to not have wheel and move capabilities. A very limited number of such units is permitted in an army. No army may have more than two such units. The presence of any such units requires clear documented support from primary sources. Longbows are limited to LB units and SI. SI armed with LB cost 5 points.
VERY limited numbers of LC with an FV of 3 are permitted but require clear documented support from primary sources. VERY limited numbers of LHI with an FV of 5 are permitted but require clear documented support from primary sources. No more than two such LC or LHI units are permitted in any army. No LC with an FV higher than 3 nor LHI with an FV higher than 5 are permitted.
No WB, LC, LI, or LHI with a Missile Protection Factor greater than 1 are permittted. No FT may have a Missile Protection Factor greater than 2 except dismounted knights. No units may have a greater starting Missile Protection Factor greater than 3.
The minimum cost permitted for a massed infantry unit is 4 points.
LC that are permitted to dismount by the army lists do so as SI with a BP of two at the same cost as the original LC with an FV of 2(1)1 and Prot of +2. Other mounted units that are permitted to dismount by the lists do so as FT with a BP of three at the same cost as the original unit. Mounted units with missile weapons that dismount retain the missile range of their missile weapon for mounted troops just as if they were still mounted but the missile arc of infantry.
